In 2001, the Department of Health Services instituted the requirement
that California-licensed physicians and surgeons who have fluoroscopy licenses need to earn ten (10)
approved continuing education credits in the two years prior to the
expiration of their certificate in Fluoroscopy.
AB487 states that all physicians, with the exception of pathologists and
radiologists, must collect 12 hours of CME on the topics of pain management
and the treatment of terminally ill and dying patients by
December 31, 2006.

AB1820 requires general internists and family practice physicians with
patient populations in which over twenty-five percent of patients are
at least 65 years of age to complete at least twenty percent of their
CME in the field of geriatric medicine.
